Due to consistent breakouts, I started out around 9 months ago with the Acne Treatment Pads. My trusted girl, Kim, at Space.NK introduced me to them. Cane + Austin is a line created by Dr. Craig Austin, a board certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist.

After the Acne pads finished (I cut in half to last longer and only use at night instead of morning and night as suggested.
But do what works for you - sometimes when I'm feeling I need extra exfoliation or I'm getting minor breakouts, I use a full pad at night and a half pad in the morning), I then purchased the Retexturizing Treatment Pads as they contain more glycolic acid (10% total); and my acne had cleared up.

In my case,
LUMINOSITY has greatly increased. My pores have reduced but not by 91%. Still, any pore reduction is welcome in my book!
I have purchased this sweet little skinsaver 3 times within the last 8 or 9 months. For me to purchase a product more than ONCE is a miracle - means I truly love it because I actually feel it has made a great improvement to my skin. This really has smoothed out my skin's texture and helped minimize my pores.
For years I have struggled with moderate acne. At an early age started to see a dermatologist. Tried everything from Retin-A to BenzaClin. I stopped using prescription topical medications over 10 years ago. Tried a bunch of other products. Proactive didn't work for me, I've tried the cheap stuff, the more expensive stuff. Nothing seemed to work. It wasn't till my late teens/ early 20's that I started becoming interested in skincare products verses medication. This is not to say that medication is never needed. Every individual has different needs. What works for me might not work for you. You have to find what works for you.
In my late teens - many moons ago - I started out with Clinique skincare. Then a makeup artist friend of mine introduced me to Sothys (future blog to come), and from there my skin care products pursuit has grown and evolved. With age, and finding the right products, my skin has greatly improved. These days I'm not so concerned with eliminating acne, I'm now more focused on anti-aging skincare. As with most things in life, PREVENTIVE measures are always best. I still get minor breakouts (I'm 31), so I'm thinking of alternating my purchase of the Retexturizing pads with the Acne ones.
My skin is NOT perfect but I'm slowly getting it to look as best as possible. That's all we can do. Work with what we have. Some people are just born with great skin. I know this girl who has ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS FLAWLESS skin. Her secret? Nature. She washes her face with Dove bar soap. Amazing. If only we were all so fortunate. For those of us LESS fortunate, we have to find what works for us. Not every great product is going to work great for every person. I can't say it enough -

ACNE TREATMENT PADS
Ingredients:
Active ingredient: Salicylic Acid 2% Acne Medication Inactive ingredient: Acetone, Alcohol (13% v/v), Ammonium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Glycolic Acid, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Polysorbate-20, Sodium Benzoate, Water (Aqua).
Salicylic Acid - A type of beta hydroxy acid, closely related to AHA (alpha hydroxy acid - see below). BHA is an organic compound used in cosmetics as an anti-aging agent, and most commony used as an acne treatment.
Acetone - greatly used in a variety of general medical and cosmetic applications. Dermatologists offices use acetone with alcohol for acne treatments to peel dry skin (a common ingredient used in a chemical peel). Common agents used today for chemical peels are
salicylic acid and
glycolic acid.
Alcohol (13% v/v) - an organic compound; there are different classes of alcohol (ethanol - most commonly found in alcoholic beverages, denatured alcohol contains additives which make it undrinkable, isoproply alcohol as in rubbing alcohol used for sanitizing).
Ammonium Hydroxide - a solution of ammonia in water.
Disodium EDTA - an acid produced as a salt, used in shampoos, cleansers and other personal care products. It is added to products to improve their stability in exposure to air.
Gylcolic Acid - the smallest AHA (a-hydroxy acid), usually derived from sugar cane. AHA's are a class of chemical compounds greatly used in consmetics due to their anti-aging properies and overall skin improvement.
Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract - derrived from a flowering plant and is extracted to create an astringent used to help treat acne and or other topical wounds.
Imidazolidinyl Urea - an antimicrobial preservative used in cosmetics.
Polysorbate-20 - used as a detergent and emulsifier in many cosmetic products.
Sodium Benzoate - a widely used food preservative; the sodium salt of benzoic acid.
RETEXTURIZING TREATMENT PADS
Ingredients:
Water(Aqua), Glycolic Acid, Ammonium Hydroxide, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Polysorbate-20, Phospholipids, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Ubiquinone, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Benzoate, Menthol, Acetone, Imidazolidinyl Urea.

Ammonium Hydroxide - see above.
Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water - derrived from a flowering plant and is extracted to create an astringent used to help treat acne and or other topical wounds, mixed with water.
Polysorbate-20 - see above.
Phospholipids - a class of lipids that are a major component of cell membranes that form lipid bilayers. A lipid bylayer is a thin polar membrane made of two layers of lipid molecules. These membranes are like tiny flat sheets that form a continuous barrier around cells. Lipid bylayers keep ions, proteins and other molecules where they need to stay and prevent them from diffusing into areas where they shouldn't be. Phospholipids can act as an emulsifier and are a component of lecithin which is found in egg-yolks, and may also be extracted from soy beans.
Retinyl Palmitate - used in topically applied skin care products. Once it is absorbed into the skin, it is converted to retinol and ulatimately to retinoic acid (the active form of vitamin A which is present in Retin-A).
Tocopheryl Acetate - also known as vitamin E acetate, used in cosmetics. It is not oxidized and can penetrate through the skin to the living cells. It is a beneficial antioxidant.
Ascorbyl Palmitate - an ester formed from asorbic acid and palmitic acid creating a fat-soluble form of vitamin C.
Ubiquinone - also known as Coenzyme Q10
Disodium EDTA - see above.
Sodium Benzoate - see above.
Menthol - an organic compound made synthetically or from cornmint, peppermint or other mint oils.
Acetone - see above.
Imidazolidinyl Urea - see above.
ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA...
"For any topical compound to be effective, including AHA, it must penetrate into the skin where it can act on living cells. Bioavailability (influenced primarily by small molecular size) is an important factor in a compound's ability to penetrate the top layer of the skin. Glycolic acid, having the smallest molecular size, is the AHA with greatest bioavailability and penetrates the skin most easily; this largely accounts for the popularity of this product in cosmetic applications." Bioavailabiliaty is basically the percentage of which a substance is actually absorbed. So... gylcolic acid is one of the best AHAs you can find. Overall feeling of glycolic acid?? A wonderful ingredient and generally safe to use on most skin types. Try these pads, you'll love them.
